There are two ways to pay with Google and both of them use the free payment platform called Google Pay. One lets you buy things and the other is for sending and receiving money with other users.
The first app, Google Pay for Android, lets you pay for things online, in stores, in apps, and other places. It works for Android devices only and is only accepted in select places where it is supported. Google Pay used to be called Android Pay and Pay with Google.
The free Sweatcoin app pays you for walking. Technically you get paid in the app’s “coin” currency, but those points can be redeemed for goods and experiences through the app. If you’re already doing a lot of walking, this is a cool way to passively earn some rewards. The second—called Google Pay on iPhone, and Google Pay Send on Android—is another payment app from Google. But instead of letting you buy things, it’s used to send and receive money with other people. It is 100% free and works on computers, phones, and tablets, for both iOS and Android. This used to be called Google Wallet.
What Is Google Pay?
It is a new mobile payments app that can store your credit cards, debit cards, loyalty cards, etc. In addition, Google will launch a redesign of the Google Wallet app, which you can use for sending and requesting money. That’s now called Google Pay Send, keeping it in line with the Google Pay brand. However, US and UK users can soon use this app for sending and requesting money, too.
Confusing, we know. Anyway, it is officially your one-stop shop for purchases, passes, and payment methods. Google is currently working on bringing Google Pay to all Google products. So whether you’re shopping on Chrome or with Google Assistant, you’ll have a consistent checkout experience, using the cards saved to your Google Account, the company explained in a blog post.
It’s also working with partners online and in stores. So you will see this on sites, in apps, and at your stores around the globe.
How Secure Is Its Transaction?
Transactions using Google Pay are secure as Google keeps all payment information on secure servers. Your full card details are never stored on your phone or shared with merchants when you use it. Merchants are only provided with your Virtual Account Number.
When Google Pay is used for transactions a confirmation appears in the app which can assist you to detect suspicious activity sooner. This alert contains where the transaction occurred along with the merchant’s name and the amount of the payment or refund.
If you misplace your phone you can use Android Device Manager to either lock your device or perform a remote factory reset to prevent further Google Pay transactions being processed.
Is Google Pay Different from Android Pay?
The Android Pay app has become the Google Pay app. So, this app is basically a redesign of Android Pay. But, in terms of functionality, not much is new – except that the new Google Pay home screen now shows you relevant, nearby stores that accept it. That list is personalized and based on previous stores where you have used the service, and it’s based on your location. The home screen also shows you all of your recent purchases.
Google Pay is technically split into two halves: the new Home tab and the Card tab. While the Home tab shows you nearby stores and recent purchases, it also lets you easily access your rewards and get helpful tips. As for the Cards tab, it’s where you’ll store your credit and debit cards, loyalty programs, offers, and even gift cards. So, it sounds like Android Pay’s core features are still here. Google said more features are coming, too.
How Do You Set Up It?
To get started using it, follow these steps:
- Look for the Google Pay app on your phone. It will be updated from the Android Pay you may have already installed. It’ll also be preloaded on several devices, but you can also simply download it from Google Play. It’s only available in countries that support it, however.
- Open the app and add a credit or debit card within Cards tab. If it’s your first time using the app, tap Get Started, then select a payment method to add, and take a photo of your card or enter your information. Google will then verify you via SMS or email authentication.
- That’s it. Simply unlock your phone and tap to use it at any contactless payment terminal. You can also use it in apps and sites.
How Does It Work in Stores?
To do in-store purchases with this, follow these steps:
- Look for the Google Pay symbol or contactless payment symbol at a contactless payment terminal near checkout.
- Unlock your phone.
- Hold your phone over the terminal and wait until you see a checkmark.
- That’s it. No need to even open the app.
When Google first unveiled Google Pay, it said you would be able to pay for goods by simply unlocking your Android phone like you normally do (which also enables it to authenticate your transaction). Then you should place it near a merchant’s contactless terminal, and that’s it. Keep in mind, according to Google, you also pay for purchases under £30 without unlocking your phone (the screen just needs to be on).
For purchases above that, you’ll need to put in your authentication. You don’t even need to open an app to process a payment. It just lets you tap and go, and then you receive the confirmation/transaction details on your phone. Also, when you pay at select retailers, your loyalty points and offers will be auto-applied at checkout. You might also get special offers piped to your phone when near checkouts.
How Does It Work in Apps?
To do in-app purchases with this, follow these steps:
- Open a supported app, like Uber or Airbnb.
- At checkout or time of purchase, look for the Buy with Google Pay button (or older buttons like Android Pay or Google Wallet).
- Press the Google Pay button.
- You might be asked to pick a payment method or enter your shipping address before confirming your order.
Android offers a “Buy with Google Pay” button in apps, meaning you will be able to tap a button and swiftly checkout, rather than having to enter your credit card and shipping address each time you make a purchase.
How Does It Work in Sites?
To pay in supported sites with this, follow these steps:
- You can use it in any browser.
- At checkout on a supported site, just look for the Google Pay purchase button.
- You might be asked to pick a payment method or enter your shipping address before confirming your order.
Now, if you see a box at checkout that says “Use selected info for future purchases from this site,” check it to use it and set it as your default payment method. The next time you plan to buy from that site, just choose what you want to buy, start to check out, and confirm that you want to use the payment information associated with it. Then, all your information will be auto-filled.
What else Can You Do with Google Pay?
Peer-to-peer payments
Soon, thanks to new functionality from Google Pay Send (formerly Google Wallet), so you can use it to instantly send money to friends. If they have an email or phone number, you can pay them with it. And it will work via Google Assistant, too. You’ll just say, “OK Google, send [money amount] to [friend’s name] for [reason].” So, “OK Google, send $25 to Greg for concert tickets.”
Which Banks Work with It?
US
It works with your credit and debit cards from the following US financial institutions: American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. These cards are issued by the following US banks and credit unions: Bank of America, Capitol One, Chase, Citi, Discover, PNC, US Bank, Wells Fargo, and more.
UK
It works with your credit and debit cards from the following UK financial institutions: Visa and MasterCard cards are supported. These financial institutions support it in the UK: Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, MBNA, Nationwide Building Society, Natwest, and more.
PayPal Expands Google Support
Users have been able to use PayPal to pay on Google Pay for some time now. But PayPal is continuing to make things easier for Google-bound users in the U.S.
On May 24, 2018, PayPal announced that registering your PayPal account with any one of Google’s services would seamlessly allow users to access that same account on Google’s other services, without needing to set up the account’s details on those other services.
This means that if you set up your Google Pay account to pay via PayPal, your PayPal account will automatically become enabled on Gmail, the Google Play Store, YouTube, or anywhere that Google offers a payment service, without you needing to log in again.
Google Pay Send Is Now Part of Google Pay
GooglePay and Google Pay Send users in the U.S. no longer need two apps for all of their contactless payments. Now GooglePay allows you to make peer to peer payments directly from the app. If you’re outside the United States you’ll need to continue using both of them separately for the time being.
Google Pay Now Stores Boarding Passes and Tickets
First announced at the 2018 Google I/O conference, Google Pay now allows you to store mobile boarding passes and event tickets within the app.
Currently only a handful of companies, including Southwest Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Southwest, Eventbrite, Ticketmaster, and FortessGB, are participating in the rollout, however you should see many more firms add the feature in the coming months.
To store passes or tickets in it you can either select the “Send ticket to my phone” option from participating websites or elect the same option via email from companies that support GooglePay Tickets. If you want to access your tickets, just tap on the Passes tab.
Conclusion
There are a lot of big players in mobile payments these days. The most iconic of them are Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. GooglePay competes with both services. But it is quite similar to Apple Pay in its implementation and reliance on NFC technology.
In contrast, Samsung Pay uses a unique system that is capable of manipulating regular card registers. The MST technology, which Samsung acquired for $200 million, allows the payments service to be compatible in every store that supports credit cards with magstripes. As such, Samsung Pay has a much longer reach than the 2 others, though it is limited to Samsung phones and the Gear S2 or Gear S3 smartwatch only.

Repeat the 3 steps for all the 6 apps from Swagbucks.
Some apps pay 2 SB for every 5 videos while others pay 2 SB for every 10 videos. Each app has a daily limit of 10 SB. If you still watch the videos after completing the daily limit, you will not be paid.
